Summary
Modern gas turbine technology has begun to penetrate into the clean coal and refinery residue-based power generation markets. Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) and Pressurized Fluidized Bed Combustion (PFBC) technologies are the main precursors of the transition of gas turbines towards heavy fuel firing.
In addition, within the next ten years, underground coal gasification and Externally Fired Combined Cycle (EFCC) may also become gas turbine-related technologies.
According to IMTE AG study, all this may happen within a shorter timescale than previously anticipated
