Basel-Landschaft

The historic Canton of Basel was divided in 1833. The result of this division was creation of  two half-cantons: Basel Stadt and Basel-Landschaft (518 km2 -275,500 inhabitants). Canton Basel-Landschaft lies in the north of Switzerland. The Jura Mountain chain traverse the Canton. The Canton Basel-Landschaft shares borders with Canton Basel-Stadt to the northwest, Canton Solothurn to the southwest, Canton Jura to the west, Canton Aargau to the east, France (région of Alsace) to the northwest and Germany (state of Baden-Würtenberg) to the north.
