Electric

Trains with electric engine driven locomotives are supplied externally with electric power, either through an overhead supply line or through a third rail. While the capital cost of electrifying track is high, electric engine driven trains are capable of higher performance and lower operational costs than steam or diesel powered trains. Electric engine driven locomotives are technically less complex than diesel-electric and steam engine powered locomotives.
