Sandpipers

Sandpipers are found on shores and in wetlands around the globe, breeding on the Arctic tundra to more temperate climes. Sandpipers have long bodies and legs, and narrow wings. Most species have a narrow bill, but otherwise the form and length are quite variable. The bills are sensitive, allowing the birds to feel the mud and sand as they probe for food. Sandpipers range in size from as little 11 cm in length and 18 grams weight up to 66 centimetres in length and 1 kg weight.
